SAN ANTONIO – Cryptocurrency fans now have a new way to trade cryptocurrency outside of their mobile devices and home computers. They can now go to select HEB stores to buy and sell cryptocurrency through digital currency machines (DCMs).

“HEB is currently piloting 29 stores in the Houston area,” HEB representative Julie Bedingfield said in a statement.

The installation of machines from Coin Cloud, a company that provides crypto-currencies kiosks around the world, is part of a pilot project in Texas. Houston is used as a test site for the pilot to see how many buyers are interested in engaging with the cryptocurrency.

The machine will be like the Coinstars that have been ubiquitous in grocery stores for decades. However, these DCMs will be for cryptocoins.

Customers have the ability to trade, buy, and sell between 30 cryptocoins, including Bitcoin.

“We are excited to reach this stage of our business as our growth is a tangible representation of the interest in digital currencies and Coin Cloud’s mission to provide communities with transparent options to buy and sell,” Chris McAlary , founder and CEO of Coin Cloud, said in a Press release. “As we continue to expand, retailers will increasingly be aware of the important role digital currency will play in the future and how the extensive deployment of DCM by Coin Cloud will help them meet the prospective needs of their buyers from a technological and financial point of view. “

Still don’t know how cryptocurrency works? DCMs will allow HEB customers to buy cryptocurrencies in cash and sell them through the system, but they cannot purchase groceries with digital currency.

The kiosk facility provides a physical location for cryptocurrency buyers to shop and purchase cryptocurrency from DCMs in one location.

Texas is also emerging as a hub for crypto-mining, especially with relaxed regulations and cheap energy costs. Could these cryptocurrency kiosks be the future standard and expand to HEB locations in San Antonio?

Current Houston HEB locations with DCMs can be found on Coin Cloud’s interactive location map here.
