Warzone players are well and truly split on where sniper rifles should fit in the Call of Duty battle royale, as Season 3 nerfs have been exacerbated by Season 4 changes which, for many, have made the even weaker long-range weapons.

Sniper Rifles weren’t in a contentious position in Warzone until the end of Season 3. This update significantly nerfed some of the long-dominant snipers, namely the Kar98k and Swiss K31.

They, along with other snipers, had their single shot capability reduced to a large extent, paving the way for heavier, slower snipers like the HDR to gain popularity.

Many thought Season 4 would readjust the weapon class slightly and head towards the old meta but, when it released on June 22, there was nothing notable for sniper rifles, although a host of ‘AR have been improved. The result is that players feel the snipers are being overlooked even more, and many are now voicing their concerns.

Warzone snipers have been in a tricky position since Season 3.

In a July 2 Reddit post, player “ibabyXD” called for major Raven buffs, attaching a video to show off a number of sniper issues. In it, snipers fail to hit enemies at a number of ranges, sometimes even failing to break through their armor.

They also complained that the sniper scope being so heavily nerfed made them feel like shotguns and pointed out that for some snipers it would take up to three shots to take down a fully armored enemy.

The OP commented, “Snipers are supposed to shoot from a distance. These are not shotguns. This is the literal definition of SNIPING. No, they didn’t nerf “broken snipers”, they nerfed ALL snipers/snipers, even 1% of unused ones… Kar98k topped loadouts since 2020, but it was still less nerfed than some other snipers.

Many players echoed the sentiment and called for a quick Raven buff. “Rendering 90% of the game’s sniper rifles totally useless isn’t great game design,” said one.

Others, however, were less convinced. One player responded, arguing that the sniper nerf makes fighting invisible enemies more balanced: “You can still one-hit kill with a sniper, but it’s harder now. This is not a bug that needs to be fixed. It’s the intentional design that works exactly the way it’s supposed to. You say this is not a solution to reduce instant death on Caldera… They literally made it harder to get instant death on Caldera.

With players divided, the ball is really in Raven’s court as to how to progress with the fan-favorite weapon class.
